Laser Hair Removal: What It Is and What People Wonder About

WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

It is a permanent method that completely rids the body of hair by burning hair follicles with the help of light beams. It can be applied to the entire body. It should definitely be done by expert individuals and institutions, otherwise it can cause irreversible stains and damage.

AREAS WHERE LASER HAIR REMOVAL IS MOST EFFECTIVE

In laser hair removal, the ideal skin and hair color combination is light skin and dark hair color. The best results are obtained in individuals with this characteristic. Conversely, the success rate for 100% results is lower with dark skin and dark hair color. Similarly, this rate is also low for individuals with light skin and fine, light-colored hair. The best results are obtained from body hair compared to facial hair.

AREAS WHERE LASER HAIR REMOVAL IS NOT EFFECTIVE?

It is definitely not effective for individuals with dark skin tone, white or gray hair color.

SITUATIONS WHERE LASER HAIR REMOVAL CANNOT BE APPLIED

It is not applied to individuals under 18 years of age; the twenties are considered the ideal age. It cannot be applied to individuals who are tanned by solarium or sun.

IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL A PAINFUL PROCEDURE?

Laser hair removal varies in pain depending on the area. For example, while no pain is felt in the underarm area, pain is felt in the genital and facial areas. This pain is similar to a sunburn; it is not a very painful procedure as commonly believed. It will cause temporary redness after the procedure, and this redness and pain can be reduced by using ice packs.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE LASER HAIR REMOVAL

For laser hair removal, hair should not have been subjected to applications such as waxing, epilators, threading, or tweezers for at least 20 days. The body hair should be long enough to be removed with tweezers. The area to be treated must be free of any oils or cosmetics.

HOW LONG DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL TAKE?

Laser hair removal is performed in sessions depending on the density and type of body hair, and the treated area also determines the number of sessions. For example, the upper lip and chin areas are completed in a few minutes, while the underarms take about 20 minutes. For areas like legs and back, the hair removal process is completed after 6 to 10 sessions. Hair is reduced by 20% after each session. However, attending sessions on time, regularly, and without skipping is the golden rule for obtaining the best results.

WHAT TO CONSIDER AFTER LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Between laser hair removal sessions, growing hairs should be removed with a razor or scissors, not with methods that remove hair from the root like waxing or tweezers. The skin should be cleansed without excessive irritation. The skin must be protected from sunlight, and swimming in pools or the sea should be avoided. There are no particular points to be especially careful about after the procedure is completely finished.

SIDE EFFECTS OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL

As I mentioned at the beginning of my writing, laser hair removal has been applied since 2000, so while no short-term side effects have been detected, it is not possible to know the long-term results as sufficient time has not yet passed. However, it is beneficial to make a decision considering this. No organ or function in the body exists unnecessarily or as an excess; every function and every change has a reason. Such applications completely halt the natural change in a person's body and eliminate a continuous cycle within the body. Of course, it is an ideal method for excessive hair growth conditions such as hormonal disorders.
